This work explores the paradoxical relationship between humans and the natural world, a relationship that threatens our very chance to fulfill our dreams. I search for the awe through distance of a satellite image, translated into a painting by use of fragile flowers, threaded trails, and natural pigments bring us closer to the natural.

My work is a memento mori of the Anthropocene, the current geological age where human activity is the dominant force on our climate and environment. The paintings display quickly disappearing ordinary scenes that are distant to society. While admiring beauty that still exists, this work encourages awareness of our wreckage. When we find something beautiful, we pause and can't help but stare. The allure allows us to spend time with what we see, and time spent fosters love; with this search for beauty we can begin to close this gap between humankind and the natural world.
